Synopsis

Captain America (2012 series) #23 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

The mysterious armored warrior from Arnim Zola’s ship crashes through the doors of Avengers Mansion. He is confronted first by Iron Man, then Thor, and lastly the Hulk. He is able to avoid their attacks through his superhuman agility and penetrate deeper into the mansion. The warrior finds the aged Steve Rogers and unmasks to reveal…his adopted son Ian Rogers, thought dead in Zolandia (issue #8). Ian explains that the fiery stream he fell into was the same stuff he was made of and so regenerated. He is here now to aid the heroes in stopping Zola’s invasion. Falcon, flying high over the city with Jet Black, contacts Steve and they arrange that the Avengers will attack Zola head on as a distraction for Falcon and Jet to enter the tower secretly, though Jet suspects something more to her father’s scheme. Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk battle the mutates alongside Ian; they go down easily enough but then they see a bigger hurdle: a quartet of superpowered mutate versions of Cap, Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk, calling themselves the Unvengers….

Inside the tower, Jet plans to seal off the breeding pens so that Zola will be unable to release more monsters into the city. She and Falcon overpower the guards and they open to doors to discover…Sharon Carter….

Review / Commentaries

Captain America (2012 series) #23 Review by (August 16, 2014)
Review: Near non-stop action characterizes this enjoyable installment of the series with Ian (and we knew it was Ian all along, unless it was Sharon) showing himself more than a match for the guest heroes in the issue. He proves to be quite a likeable young man and I hope we see more of him. And I’m glad they aren’t taking another decade-and-a-half to bring back Sharon like last time (she was apparently killed in issue #233 of the original series and returned in #445). Exciting and colorful issue—hope the series stays that way for a while.

Comments: First appearance of the Unvengers. Sharon apparently died in Dimension Z in issue #10.
