Synopsis

Captain America and ... #631 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
In the caves beneath the Damocles Research Facility, Hawkeye is fighting with the dinosaur symbiote which has taken over the body and mind of Captain America. Discovering that Cap is still partially in possession of his mind, Hawkeye unleashes a sonic arrowhead which emits a ghastly high-pitched squeal that drives the symbiote away. The groggy Cap and his partner fight their way through a horde of the monsters to a quiet part of the cavern. Meanwhile, the symbiote which fled Cap’s body discovers the skeleton of a prehistoric serpent and absorbs it…. Elsewhere, Cap fills Hawkeye in on Stegron’s scheme to resurrect the long-dead saurian race. When they encounter Stegron and try to fight him, the beast-man explains that they have a common enemy. The saurian he had raised had had their DNA corrupted by the alien enemy which had destroyed them—the Dire Wraiths. And now their Queen is seeking a better body, having wanted Cap’s while leaving Stegron unharmed because only he has the secrets of restoring them to life. The heroes discover that the kidnapped children have now been transformed into miniature lizard people. Realizing the solution to the crisis lies topside, Cap and Hawkeye head back to the lab where they discover Kash Venema overseeing the removal of the mysterious specimen, on orders from her secret superior. When the heroes confront her over the sinister scheme, her guards draw aim on them—but the monster Queen erupts through the floor to throw everything into chaos….

Review / Commentaries

Captain America and ... #631 Review by (May 30, 2012)
Review: The return of the Dire Wraiths may make this unexceptional miniseries interesting. Otherwise, unattractive art and chaotic violence rule the day. One more issue to see whether there is a payoff.

Comments: The Dire Wraiths are a race of alien shapeshifting sorcerers who were created by Bill Mantlo as the villains for ROM: SPACE-KNIGHT. When Marvel lost the license for the ROM series, the Wraiths went into limbo for a while before being resurrected in the ANNIHILATORS miniseries and other cosmic titles.
