Captain America and ... #634 Review by (August 3, 2012)
Review: Nice throwback to the Silver Age with a story that centers on good guys fighting bad guys and trying to recover a stolen high-tech McGuffin. Bunn and Kitson don’t quite have the panache to pull it off like Lee and Kirby—the tech aspects and the action are both hard to follow—but it’s nice to see them try.

Captain America and ... #634 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

At the Madripoor Weapons Expo, Tony Stark, his Iron Man armor compromised by the Harvester Protocol, is about to be decapitated by Machete of Batroc’s Brigade. When she is distracted by the insect-like drones flying through the room, Tony manages to crawl away and shut down Extremis in a painful maneuver. Captain America protects Tony from Batroc and the rest of his gang but Kashmir Vennema and the crooks fly off, courtesy of miniature jet packs. Tony warns Steve of the dangers of the Virus: it shuts down all tech in its vicinity while transmitting full specs to its source—and now the villains have the designs for the Iron Man armor. Tony’s armor—kept within his body—is still infected but he needs to hold onto it to track its current location. While Tony works on that, Cap heads out into the night to trace the bad guys the old-fashioned way….

Later that evening, Cap returns to his safe house only to be surprised by an attack from Batroc. Cap easily holds off the Gallic mercenary—but then the rest of the Brigade (minus Rapido whose gun arm was destroyed by the Harvester Protocol) arrives, overwhelming the hero. Suddenly Iron Man appears, after a fashion, Tony having constructed a suit of armor from scraps found at the conference. They drive off the villain then follow behind, tracking them to the hideout where they discover the identity of Kash Vennema’s employer: M.O.D.O.K. and A.I.M….
