Synopsis

Incredible Hulk, The (1968 series) #401 synopsis by Julio MM
Rating: 3 stars

Incredible Hulk #401 picks up in the aftermath of the Leader’s destruction, with Omnibus—a shadowy manipulator within the Pantheon—quietly assuming control over the covert operation known as Feud Franco. As part of his consolidation of power, he releases the U-Foes, who had remained uninvolved during the prior chaos.

The U-Foes cross paths with the Hulk, and Ironclad, ever the bruiser, initiates combat. But the encounter is brief and one-sided—Hulk dispatches him with ease, prompting the rest of the team to retreat without further challenge.

Meanwhile, Rick Jones is overwhelmed with relief and joy at the return of Marlo Chandler, though she remains in a catatonic state following her resurrection. Hulk escorts both Rick and Marlo back to their apartment, only to find Betty Ross preparing to leave—her departure underscoring the emotional fragmentation that continues to haunt Bruce Banner’s personal life.

In the closing scene, Agamemnon approaches Hulk with a proposition that could redefine his role in the world: to become the leader of the Pantheon. It’s a moment of quiet gravity, offering Hulk not just command, but a chance at purpose beyond rage and reaction—a thematic pivot toward legacy, responsibility, and the burdens of leadership.
