Synopsis

Incredible Hulk, The (1968 series) #400 synopsis by reviewer Julio MM
Rating: 4 stars

Agamemnon pays a quiet visit to Betty Ross, asking her to find the Hulk, who has gone off-grid following the fallout with the Pantheon. Betty locates him, and after a moment of emotional reckoning, the two reconcile with a kiss—brief but meaningful, a gesture that bridges the chaos of their shared past.

Later, at Rick Jones’ apartment, Agamemnon reveals a critical truth: his supposed alliance with the Leader was a ruse. He exposes the villain’s true location, prompting Hulk to leave immediately, driven by fury and purpose.

Meanwhile, Rick, desperate to bring Marlo Chandler back from the dead, entrusts her body to the Leader. The revival process begins under the guidance of Soul Man, using a mysterious and powerful device ominously named the Deux Ex Machina. But before the procedure can be completed, Hydra launches a surprise assault on the Leader’s lair, throwing everything into chaos.

The Hulk arrives mid-battle, tearing through Hydra forces as Soul Man completes Marlo’s resurrection. She returns to life just as Hulk confronts the Leader, smashing the Deux Ex Machina in a climactic act of rage. The resulting explosion kills the Leader, along with Soul Man and Redeemer—the latter revealed to be Thunderbolt Ross, resurrected and reengineered by the Leader’s twisted science.

This arc blends resurrection, betrayal, and redemption, culminating in a violent reckoning that reshapes the gamma legacy and leaves Hulk once again standing amid the wreckage of gods and ghosts.
