Incredible Hulk #601 Review by (February 15, 2010)
Beautiful painted art by Ariel Olivetti. Pak's jewel is bringing back Banner's armor from 1964 (which had fallen into a pit). The comic was originally scheduled for an August 19 release (but came out the 26th). Two alternative covers available, one by Ed McGuinness portraying Skaar, and the other is Marvel's 70 Ann with the green Hulk.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Incredible Hulk #601 Synopsis by Julio Molina-Muscara
Bruce Banner, "cured" from becoming the Hulk (by Rulk in Incredible Hulk #600), reaches New York where Reed Richards and a large group of super heroes are waiting for him. In his Baxter building, Reed lets Bruce know that his studies, along with those of Hank Pym (now the Wasp), Hank McCoy (the Beast), T'Challa (former Black Panther), and Amadeus Cho, confirm that Banner has no traces of the Hulk in his body. But Bruce reminds them that somehow the Hulk will return, grabs the Hulk's Sakaar sword, and escapes activating a teleportation device in it.

Later in the Mojave desert, Bruce puts on an armor he created to withstand atomic explosions (back in Tales to Astonish #60 from 1964) to confront Skaar who hates his father, the Hulk and wants to kill him. Skaar is able to break the formidable armor (the Hulk couldn't) only using his Old power (inherited from her mother Caiera), but is later unable to break the force field that surrounds Banner, because it's fed from Skaar's gamma and old powers. Bruce explains Skaar that the Hulk is "currently unavailable", and in exchange for teaching Skaar everything he needs to know about the Hulk to be ready for him when he returns, father and son team up.

As a first exercise, Banner decides to pick a fight against none other than the Juggernaut, destroying his van using a H.A.M.M.E.R. offensive satellite Banner hacked using a hand held computer.

Also in this issue: Spider-Man, Captain America (Bucky Barnes), Hercules, the Thing, Colossus, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, Wolverine, Giant Girl.

Story #2

Clash Of Furies

Writer: Fred Van Lente. Penciler: Michael Ryan. Inker: Michael Ryan. Colorist: Guru-eFX.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Lyra, the daughter of the Hulk from a distant future (coded Earth-8009), is an agent of ARMOR (Alternate Reality Monitoring and Operational Response Agency). She is desperate for news about the She-Hulk (AKA Jen Walters), who has gone MIA. Lyra cares for Jen; she is Lyra's only true friend in this timeline.

Agent Alexander Erde, who has a crush on Lyra, researches on Jen Walters, finding out that she was last spotted at a Gamma base in Death Valley. Alexander lets Lyra know about this, and both fly out on a carrier ship to check the area out. This is informed to a "General" by a mole in ARMOR, agent Marigold.

While the duo was on their way to Death Valley, Alexander reveals Lyra about his feelings for her, and kisses her on the lips. Her surprise is ever greater when a super villain girl appears in front of the ship, and attacks it with lighting bolts. The ship falls hard to the ground, causing severe wounds in Alexander. Lyra uses her wrist computer Boudicca to ask for help, but an electromagnetic field prevents any sort of communication.

Lyra evacuates the ship and faces three super villain women: Aberration (a female version of the Abomination), Morass (a female version of the Blob), and Axon (female version of Zzzax, the living dynamo), the one who caused the ship to fall.

Lyra tells Alexander to hang in there, and fights Aberration and Morass. This gives Axon a window to approach Alexander and kill him by absorbing his energy. This makes Lyra furious, and vows to kill them.

At that moment, General Ryker from a center of operations in the ORIGINS Corporation, asks the three villains (who he refers to as Gamma Corps: Black) to capture Lyra at once, and bring her back so a genetic harvest can be done on her. Leave no witnesses alive.
