Synopsis

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #24 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Bruce Banner and Charlie Tidwell arrive at the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York City. The door is answered by Clea, who knows Bruce and knows why they have come as his battle with Eldest is known to all the powerful. She also knows that Charlie possesses the skin of Lycana and wishes to be free of it. But here she is wrong. Charlie explains that she likes the power that comes with the skin, what she really wants is to be able to control it. Clea invites them in....

Clea warns them not to touch anything inside. She invites Charlie into he lower levels but Bruce is not welcome as he (and his alter ego) pose far too great a risk. She explains that Dr. Strange has prepared a drawing room where he will not be able to transform into Hulk. Bruce, skeptical, enters the room…and realizes it’s a trap. He shouts a warning to Charlie as three werewolves arrive and tear him to pieces….

Clea takes Charlie down to a room and locks the door, revealing her true form, an elegant figure with a flaming head. The witch imprisons Charlie in the air and prepares to remove Lycana’s godskin from her. The werewolves return, announcing they have killed and eaten Banner. The witch is shocked and dismayed: eaten, Banner’s remains have now been removed from the drawing room, Hulk can return—which he does, tearing his way out of the wolves and reconstituting. He breaks Charlie loose from the magic shackles and seizes the witch before she can escape through the big round window, all three of them crashing through and landing on the roof. Then Thor arrives, bringing down lightning from the sky and demanding to know why Hulk is protecting Lycana and ordering him to turn her over….

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #24 Review by (April 9, 2025)

Review: Unusual issue brings this scary Hulk into the wider Marvel universe with Dr. Strange (indirectly) and Thor (directly), making it look almost like a normal comic. New artist Kev Walker’s style is a little too cartoonish for my taste but he can really pull off the nightmarish body horror and violent action scenes. The scene where the eaten but undigested Bruce turns into Hulk and pulls himself together is easily the most gruesome Hulk event ever. Bon appetit! And now Hulk faces Thor over the usual superhero misunderstanding.

Comments: Dr. Strange is away for the events of DOCTOR STRANGE OF ASGARD.
