Returning to London, the Invaders
(Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Sub-Mariner, Human Torch, Toro) are
immediately caught up in helping the Brits fight off another German
air raid. When the fighting is over, Namor dives into the Thames
while the other guys plan to hit the night spots—except for the
Human Torch. He wants to be alone to walk the streets and brood about
his non-human status. He hears a scream and races to the scene to
find a woman and a wounded soldier being attacked by a costumed
vampire. The monster conjures up winds to snuff out Torch's flames
but he quickly makes a comeback as the vampire “Baron Blood”
retreats in an even more furious wind. Torch helps the woman, Jacqueline Falsworth, get the
injured man to a hospital and then she invites him home. There he
meets Jacqueline's father, Lord Falsworth, who reveals that he was
the costumed hero of World War I, Union Jack, member of Freedom's
Five. Jacqueline tells him that Baron Blood, Union Jack's nemesis,
has also returned. Torch summons the other Invaders and they take
Namor's flagship but Baron Blood intercepts them and hurls Cap out of
the cockpit. Toro rescues Cap and they continue to the Falsworth
residence, where they receive a warm welcome. Meanwhile, the vampire
disguises himself as a regular human and joins the party at Falsworth
Manor—as His Lordship's nephew John....
