Synopsis

Invincible Iron Man #43 synopsis by T Vernon
Rating: 2.5 stars
There’s a bomb inside Iron Man’s armor set to go off in fifteen minutes; he dashes outside the Askew Electronics building on his way to Avengers Mansion only to face Mister Hyde, sent by the Mad Bomber to stall him until the bomb detonates. Hyde hurls everything he can reach at the hero, hoping to detonate the bomb while Iron Man discovers that much of his weaponry isn’t quite working yet. Hyde grabs him in a bear hug and Shellhead expands his shields to throw him off, following it up with an illusion the entire Avengers are facing the bad guy. Hyde catches on pretty quickly but Shellhead is still able to punch his lights out. With less than five minutes left on the clock, Iron Man heads for Avengers Mansion, calling ahead to Goliath (Hank Pym) for a containment field. But his boot jets conk out and he plummets to the sidewalk, then has to halt the truck he just knocked off the road from plowing into a crowd, and then he must run to the Mansion, pushing pedestrians out of the way. At the Mansion, Jarvis lets him in and he dashes into the containment field, stripping off his armor, watching the seconds tick down—but at zero nothing happens. But the Mad Bomber never actually said that the bomb was in the armor. Then an explosion destroys the offices of Askew Electronics….

Review / Commentaries

Invincible Iron Man #43 Review by (August 28, 2020)
Comments: Illusionary Avengers: Captain America, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Wasp, Goliath (H. Pym); only the real Pym shows up later in the comic. Inked by Rob Stull, Karl Story, Joe Weems, and Marco Galli; colors by Edgar Tadeo and Avalon.

Review: What an oddball cover: there was no better way to indicate that there was a bomb in the Iron Man armor than to show him with dynamite sticks strapped to him? And inside the comic things are a bit better but couldn’t he ask Jocasta exactly where the bomb was? Another villain who would not usually be a match for our hero is involved but again, the goofy faces on the crazy art drags this comic down seriously. The tiny little eyes and mouth plus the black shorts on the new armor don’t help Iron Man’s credibility.
