Invincible Iron Man #87 Review by (June 11, 2021)
Comments: Issue bannered “Iron Man Disassembled” on cover; tie-in to “Avengers Disassembled” event. Part two of four parts. Story arc takes place after the events of AVENGERS #500-503, minus the epilogues in issue #89. First appearance of Clarence Ward. Anti-Tony Senator Zimmer appeared in issues #84-85.

Review: And now a major villain is introduced out of nowhere (Clarence Ward) and we’re even given all of the backstory that should have led up to this issue. So all mystery is gone and we can predict what will happen next, possibly even the murder of the love interest. We’ve seen this all before: Tony’s armor used against him. At least Rumiko isn’t ugly anymore—for the limited time she has left.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invincible Iron Man #87 Synopsis by Julio Molina-Muscara
While Tony Stark is locked in his isolation chamber, running all kinds of tests to discover why he lost control of himself at the U.N. Headquarters (Avengers #500), Rumiko Fujikawa is in New York remembering the time when Tony almost proposed to her (not usual in such a playboy!), and a U.S. Senator is defending Stark for his heroics months ago when he dismantled a military operation in Irak ran by American industrialist Clarence Ward.

Rumiko and her friend enter Stark's home, but are fatally attacked by... Iron Man? Rumiko dies in the arms of Tony, seconds before he's attacked by Iron Man.
