Synopsis

Iron Man #282 synopsis by T Vernon
Rating: 4 stars
The Masters of Silence have invaded Stark Enterprises on their mission to assassinate Tony Stark and come face-to-face with Iron Man in his new War Machine armor in a holographic simulation of the Vietnam jungle. They become invisible and Tony goes to ultrasound to detect them, bombarding them faster than they can evade. During the duel, Tony asks James Rhodes (Rhodey) to contact SHIELD to find out who they are; Rhodey gets through to Nick Fury, applying a bit of blackmail to persuade him to cooperate. Round two of the battle begins with a switch of setting to an urban landscape and again Iron Man has the advantage thanks to his new armor. The simulation then takes them to a moonscape with huge Martian tripods firing on them. Iron Man demonstrates he can even fight them in the dark..when Rhodey interrupts, his image filling the sky. He shows the Masters evidence that Tony Stark was framed, leading them to nearly kill an innocent man, violating their code of honor....

Elsewhere, Justin Hammer addresses his cabal, informing them that the Masters have failed and that he expects Iron Man to arrive soon. He tells them that if he is defeated, data connecting Hammer with his co-conspirators will come to light so they each promise to lend him some of their operatives for the coming fight....

Tony discovers that Justin Hammer was behind the attempt on his life and that the villain has gained control of Stane International, Tony's original firm. He calls in the Masters and they agree to join him in this battle for honor against Justin Hammer—the Masters of Silence and Iron Man....

Review / Commentaries

Iron Man #282 Review by (July 2, 2018)
Comments: Part two of three parts. First (full) appearance of the War Machine armor. The cover has “War Machine” painted over the Iron Man logo. Tony is a fan of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.

Review: Epic and off-beat fight scene with an overprepared Iron Man versus a trio of magical ninjas is the bulk of the issue, making this a real crowd-pleaser for the juvenile at heart.
