Savage Avengers #17 Review by (January 29, 2021)
Savage Avengers ties in to the King In Black event for 3 issues.

Deadpool is also fighting Knull's dragons in his current #10. The Marvel Chronology Project suggests that issue happens before this 1.

There was a previous Night Flyer villain invented by Jack Kirby in Captain America #213 who died in #214. He was reanimated in Hulk #263 but died again in #264. He didn't bother coming back again. He travelled by hang-glider rather than this new guy's artificial wings. This is the new Night Flyer's only app so far.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Savage Avengers #17 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Last issue ended with Conan having fun in a drunken brawl in the Bar With No Name. Now while Knull's darkness and black dragons turn New York into a hell, the Cimmerian is bundled by kevlar-armoured guards into a holding cell in Ryker's Island prison with the other intake.

1 among them is Deadpool who claims to be Conan's lawyer while lifting a guard's keys. He gets his wrist broken by a baton for his pains. Before Conan's astonished eyes DP puts his broken bones back together, only to find he stole the guard's personal keys not the keys to the cells. Wade Wilson says he heals like Wolverine but better. Conan says he'd like to get claws like Logan, but Wade assures him he doesn't want to be a Weapon X subject like Wolvie and him.

Conan says he has an escape plan, and forces Deadpool through the bars of the cell. Wilson of course ends up a mangled mess, but starts to knit back together. A guard enters and slips on his blood and guts. DP knocks him out and tosses a real set of keys to the Barbarian. When the cell is open a guy calling himself Night Flyer persuades them to let him go with them.

After battling through more guards they reach the lock-up where Deadpool retrieves his katanas and the Flyer gets his flying rig. Conan chooses a machete and sawn-off shotgun. The 2 non-flyers grab police horses to bust through a barrier to a bridge over to the mainland. A dragon takes Conan's horse, tipping him off the bridge. But Night Flyer swoops down to save him. Then the Cimmerian splits a dragon's head open. But it is composed of a swarm of Klyntar symbiotes which engulf him.

Conan has a vision of being in snow-bound Cimmeria facing a black sword which talks to him. It is the Klyntar symbiote from #1-5 who was a tortured captive of this series' arch-villain Kulan Gath. Conan freed it and it took black-sword form then to help him fight the wizard. We thought it died in #5 but now it says it survived within the Barbarian and has now been revived by the presence of the Klyntar's god Knull. It offers a blood-pact until they kill Gath.

Outside Deadpool (minus horse) and Night Flyer are still battling dragons and hoping Conan can fight his way out of the symbiote mass. We see bulges which indicate his struggle.
