Story Name:

Prey: Part Four of Six

Synopsis

Thor #12 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

Insane Evil Donald Blake has gone to kill Throg but he’s not having an easy time of it; the frog version of Thor, backed up by Lockjaw, has smacked Blake back into present-day Earth where he crashes through a biology class where kids are dissecting frogs. Blake uses Sif’s sword to teleport between various destinations, forcing Throg and Lockjaw to hunt for him until they reach a prehistoric land. There, Blake seizes Throg and swallows him whole and turns to face the Inhumans’ giant dog—then a tiny hammer comes smashing through Blake’s teeth, returns and slams into his gut, forcing him to cough up Throg. The amphibious hero hammers Blake between the eyes with Frogjolnir, knocking him out. Needing to interrogate him, the animal heroes take him to see Doctor Strange….

At that same moment, Jane Foster is also paying a call on Dr. Strange to learn if he has any way of locating Thor; suddenly, a battered and bloody Throg is hurled through the Sanctum Sanctorum’s window, followed by Lockjaw, and then she sees Don Blake beating Strange. She turns into Valkyrie, which surprises Blake and he teleports off. Strange, wounded, explains that he (Strange) stole some Asgardian magic when he fought Loki and now Blake, who has absorbed the powers of every Thor he’s killed, knows the source of that magic, which is…

…Yggdrasil where Blake suddenly appears. He starts chopping into the World Tree with the axe Jarnbjorn and its sap seeps into the lowest realms…

…where the imprisoned Thor sees it and vows vengeance against Don Blake….

Val summons Mister Horse, taking Throg and Lockjaw along to search for an ally whom she discovers in an alien saloon: Odin, and demands he come back and set things right….

Review / Commentaries

Thor #12 Review by (February 17, 2021)

Review: So, in a nutshell, Evil Don Blake fights frog Thor. And kudos to Cates and Klein for introducing some humor into a tense and frightening story arc without spilling over the border into the Realm of Silly. Impressive, entertaining, and the frog dissection opening was genius.

Comments: Dr. Strange gained the power of Asgardian magic in DOCTOR STRANGE #381-385. There’s a reference to Tony Stark’s phone number from issue #7-8.
