Synopsis

Thunderbolts #130 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
At the end of Deadpool (2008) #7 Deadpool learned that Norman Osborn was sending assassins to kill him because he (DP) knew that he (NO) had used info he stole from DP in order to kill the Skrull Queen at the end of Secret Invasion. And that act got him into the position of power he now holds. So DP blackmailed NO, or as he would put it he asked him to pay for the info he stole. (The money he's asking for is what Nick Fury would have paid him for the data if he'd delivered it.) But Osborn decided to sic his Thunderbolts on him. That set things up for Magnum Opus running through DP#8, this issue, DP#9, #131.

In DP#8 Wade Wilson broke into Avengers Tower and fought his way up through defences controlled by Osborn. But when he got to the top floor he found only the Thunderbolts waiting for him. Norman was controlling things safely from elsewhere - the Oscorp building.

Now Deadpool's running from them, all the while having a running conversation with his inner voice.

He runs into Headsman on his flying disc wielding his axe. DP has never heard of him and thinks he may be Executioner (Thor's dead enemy) or even Headhunter (an old foe of Sub-Mariner who didn't have an axe and only pretended to cut off people's heads). Wade tips him off the disc and throws 2 grenades at him, but Ghost makes his teammate intangible to save him from the explosions.

Black Widow regroups her team and sends them all after Wilson. Paladin fires a *very* big gun at him but it only blasts a hole in a wall for 'Pool to escape through into a science lab. Ant-Man (Eric O'Grady) harasses and stings him until he finds an experimental teleportation device in the shape of a (very clunky) wristwatch. (A handy boffin explains it to him.) Widow throws another grenade which blasts him out of a window, but he gets the teleporter to work in mid-air.

BW is strangely satisfied.

We next see Deadpool in a base in a derelict New Jersey smelting plant having a video chat with an ally who he wants to join him in a plan to get Osborn to pay up. The man is reluctant to cross Normie, and DP accuses him of having "too much fun these days playin' good guy".

Now we rejoin the Tbolts in their Thunderstrike plane. It transpires that they were *supposed* to let DP escape, after Ant-Man placed a tracer on him. NO wants to know what Wilson has told Fury about him. They are heading to his base where Ghost will copy all the data on his system. *Then* they can kill him.

Black Widow parachutes out of the plane and takes up a position with a rifle. But 1st she sets up teleport scramblers leaving only 1 way out - straight into her line of fire. Her bullets are loaded with a cure for cancer that Oscorp has created but kept secret. It will upset the delicate balance between Wade Wilson's cancer and his healing factor - and the healing factor will kill him!

'Pool has loaded himself up with loadsa' weapons as the 'Bolts crash the Thunderstrike into the building. They can't initially find him so Ant-Man suggests taking his computer stuff and destroying the whole place with a mini-nuke. But then DP takes down AM with some bug spray, and discorporates the Ghost with a sonic bomb. He deals with Headsman and Paladin with plain old agility.

BW asks what's going on. Somebody must have recovered because she's told that Deadpool's tracer isn't working anymore. They realise that he'd lured them into a trap as DP gets the drop on the Widow. But he can't kill her because he's suddenly fallen in love with her!

Review / Commentaries

Thunderbolts #130 Review by (August 1, 2017)
This is part 2 of Magnum Opus continued from Deadpool #8 and continuing in DP#9.

DP's inner voice will much later (DP 2014 Annual) be revealed to be Madcap who got merged inside him after they were both incinerated by Thor.

DP#9 will reveal that his ally is Taskmaster, who is currently *working* for Norman Osborn training his Initiative cadets as last seen in Avengers: Initiative #25. During their chat they discuss the data Osborn stole which was how to kill the Skrull Queen - and the glaring Secret Invasion plot discrepancy in that all he did was shoot her in the head.
