And Canst Thou Slay the Juggernaut?

Synopsis

Incredible Hulk #172 synopsis by Fredrik Jullum
Rating: 4 stars

Colonel John Armbruster has just captured the Hulk, and put him in a cell specially constructed for holding the monster. But General Thunderbolt Ross isn’t thrilled about the way things turned out, since Hulk had become willing to forget his hate against humans.

Dr. Peter Corbeau calls Armbruster and tells him he’ll come to the base to clean up the mess Armbruster created. Well, turns out Corbeau has created a space-time machine he plans to send the Hulk into another dimension with, and then bring him back once they cure him. The machine sends out a ray which hits the Hulk, making him disappear. And so, they have solved the problem. Hulk will no longer be a threat.

The end.

Oh wait, somebody else just appeared in the cell... No other than the Juggernaut!

Juggie doesn’t enjoy being in a cell, so he rams into the wall, trying to break it down. Well, the transporter starts once again, but brings the Hulk back instead of sending Juggernaut away. Now this can’t be good.

After Juggernaut tells the Hulk his story, which I won’t write up here, before joining Hulk in breaking down the wall. And this time, they succeed. Armbruster sends a bunch of soldiers to attack the two powerful beings, but as usual, that doesn’t work too well.

After the two break through the lines, Hulk leaves and jumps away. Juggernaut, meanwhile, attacks some American tourists who passed by. Hulk sees this, and returns to attack Juggernaut.

They fight, and Juggernaut headbutts Hulk over a mountain, before blowing through it and smashing Hulk against another. Hulk is now pretty tired of Juggernaut, and knocks him down, before knocking a mountain over him.

However, it is not easy to defeat Juggernaut. He kicks down Hulk, who counters with a punch, before getting kicked down again. Juggernaut, who is obviously the most powerful of the two, then breaks Hulk’s neck. Or actually, that’s what he would’ve done if Hulk didn’t get really mad, and thus, stronger, before grabbing Juggernaut’s helmet and spinning him around until his helmet separates from the armor, sending Juggie flying into a mountain (sure are a lot of mountains out there).

And so, Juggernaut dies, and Hulk walks away...

Or is Juggernaut still alive? Yep, actually he is! And he’s ready to attack the Hulk again, before Professor X, Cyclops and Marvel Girl show up, and knock him out with their beams.

Also in this story (in flashbacks): Angel, Iceman, Doctor Strange, the Beast.
