As he lies on his back having suffered a concussion in the battle against the Red Skull and his S-Men, Havok has a vision of the fateful day when his parents sent him and his brother Scott to safety by parachute while they lost their lives in a plane crash…. Meanwhile, Scarlet Witch is engaged in combat with the rogue Thor, whose mind has been captured by the villain and turned against his mutant allies. Havok recovers just in time to lend his aid against the divine enemy. Wanda orders Havok to take down the Red Skull while she faces Thor alone. Realizing she cannot defeat him head-on, she uses her powers to send him careening off into the sky…. Elsewhere on the battlefield, Captain America knocks out Honest John and confronts the cloned version of his arch-enemy. The Red Skull, powered by the brain of Charles Xavier, shuts down Cap’s body and lectures him on the Golden Age he envisions for America—and fascist state wherein mutants are hunted. And he plans to transform Captain America into the figurehead for the vicious populist movement. Rogue appears and, having absorbed the mutant power-canceling ability of the Goat-Faced Girl, turns off the Red Skull’s telepathic power. The villain shoots her as Havok arrives on the scene and blasts the baddie. But Rogue’s injury cancels the dampening effect she placed on the Skull and the Nazi controls Havok’s mind and makes him beat up his ally Rogue. Captain America delivers a punishing blow to the Red Skull—but S-Man Dancing Water pulls her leader to safety through a puddle and away. Thor returns, freed from the villain’s mind control, and the Avengers begin picking up the pieces of the battle. The crowd reacts with shock to the disaster they caused in their mindless fury against mutants. Even the Avengers are stunned and ashamed at how easily they fell under the Red Skull’s sway. Havok lectures them all that it isn’t their fault and to look to their hearts for strength to face the future…. Later, as they engage in a fruitless search for the enemy, Havok offers to resign as head of the Unity Squad but Cap insists he stay. Scarlet Witch visits Rogue in the hospital and wants to be friends but Rogue refuses to trust her, telling Wanda she will stay to make sure she doesn’t hurt anyone else. Thor assures Logan that he did not fail Charles Xavier and that he will have allies to continue the fight…. Epilogue: Three months later Havok, Scarlet Witch, and Sunfire escape from Tony Stark’s Nimrod units, following a map into a tunnel. There they discover the skeleton of Immortus and a sketch of the Red Skull the time-traveler left on the wall. Then Onslaught steps forward….
