Synopsis

Captain America (2018 series) #20 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

In the small town of Adamsville, Ohio, the sinister Selene is running a church program that is actually a means of gathering more souls for her to feed on….

Captain America and the Falcon, along with Sharon Carter and Toni Ho, are watching news coverage of Selene’s program, endorsed by the government, supposedly offering help and support to men whose lives are wracked with despair. But the immediate concern is Sharon: Selene had stolen part of her soul (issues #4-5) and is keeping it around her neck in a pendant known as “the blood marine.” The team is now plotting how to recover it….

Meanwhile, in Madripoor, Dryad (Peggy Carter) and Misty Knight are in a bar waiting for their mysterious contact when Crossbones and a gang of his thugs enter. They try to capture the women but after a brief struggle Peggy and Misty escape and run away. It is many blocks away before they are met by a car driven by their contact: Black Widow….

Cap, Sam, and Bucky (Winter Soldier) Barnes are using image inducers to go undercover at the Ohio farm run by Selene’s organization. The guys talk over the political aspects, wondering what this farm is really a cover for….

Black Widow takes Peggy and Misty to meet the man who can fill them in on the latest developments: the “late” General Thunderbolt Ross….

Captain America (2018 series) #20 Review by (March 18, 2020)

Review: Marvel is teasing a big climax for issue #25? About time. This entire series has been moving at a snail’s pace, as the heroes are fighting a shadowy enemy whose membership, extent, and goals have been murky from the start. The first big reveal is that Black Widow is a member of the Daughters of Liberty; no surprise because a) she’s the most prominent female character to not (so far as we knew) be in the group and b) she’s being added to everything, quickly becoming the most overused Marvel character over the last few years. They must really be pinning their hopes on the upcoming movie. The second big reveal is that Thunderbolt Ross is still alive; no surprise because a) he’s faked his death before and b) of course he isn't. But #25 is rapidly approaching and with it the obligatory rollback to issue #1 to confuse catalogers and new readers alike.

Comments: One of the women on the cover appears to be Mockingbird but she does not appear on the inside.
