Chapter Three: Angels and Demons

Synopsis

Fear Itself: The Fearless #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Prologue: 1945: the Nazi mad scientists of the Thule Society have gained possession of the Golden Apples of Idunn and are planning to exploit their immortality-granting properties for their own twisted ends. Valkyrie arrives to recover them and they set their monstrous minions on her—and stand enraptured by her Teutonic beauty and grace as she dispatches them with extreme violence….

In the forests of Transylvania, Valkyrie and the Secret Avengers are locked in deadly combat with hordes of vicious vampires. The best moment comes when one of the fiends pops Ant-Man into his mouth, and the hero grows to giant-size, bursting the vampire’s head open. In the midst of this dire strait, Sharon Carter and Valkyrie continue to bicker over who deserves to gain possession of the hammer. Rogue vampire Raizo Kodo arrives to join the heroes just as one of the bloodsuckers takes a bite out of Sharon’s neck….

At DOA headquarters in South Carolina, Sin has her allies conjure a magic circle that returns Crossbones from Paris with the Hammer of Mokk. She takes the hammer downstairs to where members of her coven insert it into an elaborate machine—and the backblast of energy kills them. Sin can’t wait to see what the rest of the hammers will do….

Valkyrie gives one of the Golden Apples of Idunn to save Sharon’s life, then takes the broken Hammer of Nul and departs on her winged steed Aragorn. From the depths of the forest her departure was witnessed by members of the DOA (Department of Occult Armaments)—who have planted a spider-like tracking device with the hammer….
