Invincible Iron Man #14 Review by (December 10, 2019)
Comments: Story is continued from FANTASTIC FOUR (1998 series) #14. Roger Stern takes over as writer and co-plotter (with Kurt Busiek) as of this issue. Charlotte Jones, police officer and X-Men ally, teamed up with the FF in FANTASTIC FOUR (1998 series) #11-15.

Review: Pretty cool sci-fi interlude with dynamic art, Ronan has never looked so formidable! Problem is, I can’t discover where, if anywhere Iron Man’s rescue of the lunar base is shown. Odd. Meanwhile, an issue long battle scene is quite spectacular, added to Rhodey beating up a gang of thugs in the more conventional way.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invincible Iron Man #14 Synopsis by T Vernon
Summoned to the moon to aid the Fantastic Four, Iron Man joins Reed Richards, Thing, Human Torch and their police friend Charlotte Jones in searching the Watcher’s home for Invisible Woman who has been captured by Ronan the Accuser. Shellhead finds the villain who is mind-controlling Sue to help him force open a vault door. He swoops down, causing the door to slam shut on Ronan, and carries her back to the others….

In Casablanca, James Rhodes enters a bar asking for a man named Parnell; the bartender promises to take him to his quarry but leads him into a trap set by robbers. Rhodey beats them all into a pulp and demands that the bartender take him to Parnell for real….

As the heroes watch, Ronan bursts through the heavy vault door, proclaiming that he has reclaimed the universal power core of the Psyche-Magnetron and now he is unstoppable! Iron Man pauses to explain that the Psyche-Magnetron magnifies the powers of the mind so the user can conjure up anything conceived by Kree science. Ronan then has an army of robots appear out of the floor and the heroes start fighting with everything they’ve got. Meanwhile, Reed and Charlotte try to snap Sue out of her trance—and then she creates a force field to protect them; it seems that the villain’s hypnosis allows anyone to control her so Reed puts together a chip that will filter out any voices but theirs and she goes into action, throwing up force fields as needed. Ronan then absorbs Johnny’s flames and fires them back at the others, followed by knocking Ben out with a blast….

In Seattle, Happy Hogan talks to the kids at the athletic center, Hannah Donleavy who admits that she was a fan of his. Happy promises that Tony Stark will be there for the upcoming public reception….

Reed jury-rigs a weapon for Iron Man to unleash on the baddie; Shellhead blasts the Psyche-Magnetron, knocking it offline, and the subsequent energy discharge teleports Ronan away—followed by the Fantastic Four. The e-m pulse also wrecked the systems at the nearby SHIELD lunabase, including life support; their SOS reaches Iron Man so he and Charlotte Jones head to the rescue….

Ronan arrives back at his ship and he reveals that his universal weapon has recorded the power core’s design, allowing him to create a superweapon….
