Invincible Iron Man (2005 series) #13

The Official Index entangles this issue with Civil War #4&5 and many other issues. The Marvel Continuity Project makes it clearer and divides the issue into 2 parts. The 1st part ends with the Najeeb interlude, and lies within CW#4 between the battle and funeral of Goliath on the 1 hand and the employment of villains recruited by Thunderbolts on the other. The 2nd half (the meeting with Sal and Maya, and Spymaster's attack on Happy) occurs within CW#5 after the fight with Spider-Man. (This separation requires them to ignore that Happy was getting ready for his visit to the opera while Stark was meeting Kooning.) Iron Man will make other appearances in this gap including Amazing Spider-Man #534-536, Fantastic Four #539-540 and several stories in CW: Front Line.

We never learn what the Dreadnought was doing. (They're usually employed by organisations like Hydra and AIM.) Najeeb's henchman will be named as Darius Faraz in #16. In #15 we will learn that they are searching for Mandarin. It is obvious then that the '2nd of 10' Faraz has found are Mandarin's Rings. Mandarin was thought dead after IM (1998) #10. His Rings were later used by his son Temugin, who still had them in a brief appearance in the last issue of that series. Mandarin will be found alive and given the Rings back in flashbacks before #15 of 'this' series. Strangely Temugin will still have the Rings in the MODOK's 11 mini-series published later than that, but may lose them at the end (he doesn't have them in his subsequent appearance in Agents of Atlas). This is the Spymaster from the IM: Inevitable limited series. We don't see what happens to him after this, and he disappears out of this plot. Which is strange because Najeeb appears to tell Faraz to hire Spymaster to help him with his search for Mandarin and the Rings, not go after Stark. Spymaster will resurface in IM (2008) #26.
