Synopsis

Thor (1966 series) #350 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 5 stars

On the eve of the war against Surtur, Beta Ray Bill and Sif arrive in answer to Odin’s summons. The All-Father assembles the forces of Asgard, including Tyr, the Enchantress, and the Executioner, who have answered the call to war. He explains how Surtur will try to reach the Eternal Flame in Asgard to kindle the fire of his sword Twilight and destroy the Nine Worlds. Thor and Beta Ray Bill will lead the army while Odin and Heimdall will remain alone in Asgard as the last defense. Thor suggests Sif stay with Odin but she insists on joining the main force. As they leave, Odin asks his wife Frigga (i.e. Freyja) to lead the children of Asgard to safety. The children, however, refuse to leave, so Odin persuades them that they are really the ones leading Frigga to safety so they agree to go. Balder is dispatched to ask Karnilla the Norn Queen to lend her armies to the fight. She agrees but only if Balder will swear eternal allegiance to her….

The demons of Muspelhiem invade the storm-battered streets of New York but he forces of Asgard are there to meet them, joined by all available Avengers (Scarlet Witch, Starfox, Captain Marvel, Wasp). Enchantress visits the apartment of her sister Lorelei to summon her to battle but the minx accuses her of only wanting to steal Thor. With a curse Amora returns to the field. Thor calls down a rainstorm to quench the fires of the city and when the sun reappears, he spies Surtur stalking the streets. Attacking him he discovers his foe is an illusion and that the Demon Lord is crossing the Rainbow Bridge to Asgard. Heimdall sounds the Gjallerhorn….

Thor (1966 series) #350 Review by (November 5, 2013)
Review: Action-packed epic also features the gentle scene of Odin tricking the children into leaving by persuading them they will be Frigga’s protectors. A sweet moment there. Wonder where the heavy hitters of the Avengers are? Where’s Cap and Iron Man and Vision and Hawkeye? Probably off Avenging somewhere. Nevertheless, an exciting issue.

Comments: Part two of five parts.
