Winter Soldier #7 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

At a secret research facility in New Mexico, the last remaining Zephyr agent, Leo Novokov, takes down all the staff he encounters and kidnaps a scientist…..

In the two weeks since Fred Davis was murdered, the Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes and the Black Widow have been on Novokov’s bloody trail, following the corpses he’s left in his wake. They arrive at the science lab to see his latest handiwork and the Widow recognizes the kidnapped scientist as Professor Rodchenko, a Soviet defector who once worked in the Red Room. This was the top secret program where both Bucky and the Widow were trained in their deadly skills. Rodchenko was one of their experts in brainwashing, specializing in implanting false memories in subject. Jasper Sitwell informs Barnes that they are tracking the motor home in which Novokov escaped with his captive….

Somewhere in Colorado, Bucky and Natasha try to board the motor home from the back of a motorcycle in the face of enemy gunfire. They make it aboard only to have Novokov murder the driver and escape to a back-up vehicle which was following. They discover a bomb on board the motor home, set to detonate in 90 seconds. Natasha takes the motorcycle in pursuit of the fleeing villain, while Bucky pilots the vehicle over the highway to an exit. There he manages to send the motor home over a cliff where it explodes while he jumps to safety. Sitwell then notifies him that they have lost contact with the Black Widow. Suddenly Bucky realizes his enemy’s true target…. In a clearing near a radar emplacement, Novokov get the drop on Natasha and stuns her into insensibility….

Review / Commentaries

Winter Soldier #7 Review by (June 25, 2012)
Review: The centerpiece of this issue is the wild ride of the motor home with a bomb; the entire sequence is terrific, well drawn and even the color (heavily blue until the moment of detonation) contributes to the mood. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much the entire issue—that and the last page revelation that Black Widow was the baddie’s real target. While the series is good, I was hoping for a bit more meat to the plot. And the next issue’s solicit includes the ominous words “Nothing will ever be the same,” which is usually a cheap way to manufacture drama.

Comments: You aren’t missing anything; the story arc jumped from “Prologue” to “Part Two,” bypassing “Part One.”
