Review: Story wraps up with a lot of action and confusion as there are several LMDs running around and we’re not always sure who is where and why. The focal point of the issue is the heroic sacrifice of General “Happy Sam” Sawyer and it’s nicely done, from a time when comic book deaths meant something. The comic gives you what you need to know about the character to appreciate the gravity of his death, and it works well. PS The cover makes the comic look more exciting than it is. Must be the Kirby Dots.

Comments: Part two of two parts. Baron Strucker supposedly died in STRANGE TALES #158; a robot double previously appeared in CAP #237. The story features an actual date for the adventure: Sam Sawyer’s tombstone lists his date of death as June 30, 1982.

Captain America with Nick Fury and SHIELD are searching for the SAC Aerial Command Center hijacked by Hydra….

Meanwhile, aboard that plane, Baron Strucker is trying to persuade General Sam Sawyer to reveal the codes needed to activate the nuclear weapons aboard. Sawyer suffers a heart attack while trying to sabotage the plane and only immediate medical attention saves his life. Sawyer manages secretly to shut off the anti-detection unit, allowing SHIELD to discover the plane’s location—Hydra Island.

Cap and the Howling Commandos suit up for the mission. Cap enters the island via jet pack, takes out LMD guards and confronts Strucker as he is about inject Sawyer with a deadly truth serum. Defeated, Strucker sounds the alarm. Cap hides Sawyer in a vent and joins SHIELD and the Howlers in battle with the agents of evil.
