Story Name:

When Women Wage War!

Synopsis

Captain America #390 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Aboard the S.S. Superia, Captain America and Paladin face a concentrated attack by fifty female costumed villains. The battle is totally chaotic (and it occupies most of the issue). Paladin’s clothes are shredded by Gypsy Moth, he is stung by Yellowjacket (the female one), and his mind is blasted by Mindblast. Cap is trapped in a force field by Ion and assaulted with axes by Battleaxe, etc. Eventually Paladin is subdued and Cap surrenders when the women threaten to tear Paladin apart….

Black Mamba and Asp tell Diamondback that Cap is aboard the ship; they plan a rescue but Diamond is terrified when she sees her assailant Snapdragon and retreats to her cabin….

Cap and Paladin are interrogated by Dr. Nightshade, using the various techniques possessed by some of the woman villains, though they don’t get much information. She decides to keep them for now. As the ship arrives at the island called Femizonia, Nightshade contacts her master with the news of their captives. Superia gloats and orders them taken to the lab—where they will by changed into women….

Synopsis: At the secret base where German authorities are holding the Red Skull, the Sleeper crashes through the ceiling and takes out the guards with eye blasts. Then the rest of the Skeleton Crew enters—Crossbones, Mother Night, and Machinesmith—on their mission to rescue their leader. But it turns out to be a trap as Hauptmann Deutschland and Blitzkrieger burst in and give battle. At first the Crew can hold them off but quickly the villains find themselves outmatched by the heroes. The Crew goes down one by one, unable to understand what is happening. As it turns out there was a third hero on the scene—the invisible Zeitgeist, third member of the Schutz-Heiliggruppe—and now all the villains are in custody….

Review / Commentaries

Captain America #390 Review by (March 13, 2016)
Comments: The Superia Stratagem, Part Four of Six. First full appearance of Superia. And there are far too many guest characters for me to identify and list. Sorry. Backup story: Part four of five, serving as a prelude to the main story which begins in issues #393. Zeitgeist appeared as Everyman in CAPTAIN AMERICA #267 and MARVEL TEAM-UP #132; his first appearance as Zeitgeist was in ALPHA FLIGHT #78. He is revealed to be a villain working for Dr. Faustus in CAPTAIN AMERICA #442.

Review: See issue #387 for full review.
