Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America #8 Synopsis by Kevin Hollander
Steve Rogers informs Rikki Barnes that he will be on an extended leave. He plans to travel the country and try to find a connection with modern-day America. If he can find it, he will resume his duties as Captain America. If not he'll deal with that when the time comes. For now she is to remain behind on the S.H.I.E.L.D. heli-carrier.

His first stop on his motorcycle tour is Mexia, TX. He encounters a police roadblock with television cameras. Sargent Jake Wang reluctantly tells him that a local militia called "Sons of the Serpent" is stockpiling high-tech weapons. When Federal agents came around to ask questions, several of them were killed. The police are trying to protect the citizens from the imminent showdown between the groups.

When a small group of the militia take hostages in a diner, Rogers finds a private spot, and puts on his costume. Within minutes the hostage situation is resolved; all of the militia members are unconscious.

Once outside, Wang meets up with Cap and takes him to the serpent compound on request. Cap asks to speak to the leader of the compound, hoping to resolve this without additional violence. His pleas for reason fall on deaf and bigoted ears.

They make their getaway using highly advanced ships. Cap is able to bring down a single ship, but the rest escape.

Cap promises to get to the bottom of this.
