Captain America #44 Review by (May 31, 2010)
Part three of a three-part story. Goofy romance comic cover gives the issue an ironic tone it doesn’t deserve—or maybe it does, since Connie is such a pain in the neck. The photon accelerator shield was given to Cap by Sharon Carter in Vol. 3 #9.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America #44 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Connie Ferrari has just discovered that Captain America is Steve Rogers, her boyfriend, and she is outraged that he never told her—or that her brother was alive and suspected terrorist. A team of villains disguised as police burst into the room and start shooting at them, then an explosion blasts them through a wall where Cap and Connie are seized by metal tentacles and drawn toward an airship. Cap hurls his shield so that Connie makes it safely to the ground—but Cap loses his shield before being trapped inside the craft. Confused, Connie recovers the shield and wanders off, pondering the lack of a future in dating an Avenger. The airship takes Cap to a bridge and a confrontation with the Taskmaster. The vengeful villain unleashes a barrage of weapons against Cap but the Star-Spangled Avenger unleashes a trick Taskmaster hasn’t seen before: a photon accelerator shield. In the battle the antagonists fall into the river and when Cap surfaces Taskmaster is gone. Heading to Connie’s apartment, Steve finds his shield—and a goodbye note.
