Synopsis

Captain America #14 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Hana relates to Captain America the story of the Interrogator: blind, deaf, and mute save what he experiences through his cyborg hand, he wanted Hana (then the Atlantean ambassador to Lemuria) to capture Captain America for him. When she refused she had to fight her way past the Assassins to escape—and at that moment she realized she was in love with Cap. He, however, on learning this is unable to tell her he doesn’t love her…but she knows that already….

Cap and Hana visit a veterans’ home in Kentucky to see retired General Phillips. When he learns that Cap is there, Phillips’ mind goes back to his history with Captain America: how he chose the 4-F Steve Rogers for the Super-Soldier Project because of the fire in his spirit; how he was disappointed as the war progressed when Cap refused to kill any longer; how he sought the President’s approval to take Captain America out of the way, so the bombing of the Hiroshima could proceed…. When the General and the Captain meet face-to-face though, they are immediately interrupted by the violent arrival of the Lemurian assassins. In the brief but violent melee, they seize Cap’s shield and slit Phillips’ throat before they flee. As he dies, the General whispers to Cap that there are things he doesn’t know.... Cap tells Hana they are going to Lemuria to recover his shield, but more importantly to avenge the General’s murder….

Review / Commentaries

Captain America #14 Review by (July 6, 2010)
Review: With a wave of the hand we are told all of Cap’s paranoid musings from the previous issue were correct: he has been a dupe of the government all along. Question: is there a light at the end of this tunnel or is Austen bent on ruining the character? Looks like he’s planning a more permanent Nomad arc (see CAPTAIN AMERICA Vol. 1 177-186 where Cap quits when disillusioned with his country). I hope not.

Comments: “Ice, Part 3 of 5.” General Phillips is said to be dead in the 1990s in CAPTAIN AMERICA, SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #2 and 3.
