Synopsis

Captain America (2002 series) #15 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

As Captain America and Hana fly to Lemuria, he ponders the implications of the conspiracy theory he has generated and wonders if Bucky’s death was likewise deliberate….

They dive into the ocean and come up in an underwater grotto, an air-filled environment for the human Interrogator. When Cap announces his intentions to take the Interrogator back to America to stand trial for the murder of General Phillips, the sinister figure calls out the guards for his protection. He merely wants to know the source of Cap’s confidence in his own rightness and abilities, to understand his worldview. Cap responds by fighting the guards, wielding his replacement shield, but the Interrogator sinks his probes into Cap. Hana cuts him free and helps him escape into the ocean, keeping him alive by breathing into his mouth. Finding solace on an island, Cap finds himself attracted to his Atlantean companion and kisses her. His sudden drawing away prompts her to muse about the repressed nature of his sexuality, questioning his prudish morality. In an instant she is impaled with a spear and dies in Cap’s arms. The Interrogator asks whether under the circumstances, Cap would consider it right to abandon his stance against killing and strake against the murderer of one he cared for…?

Review / Commentaries

Captain America (2002 series) #15 Review by (July 6, 2010)
Review: Cap’s odd moral dilemma continues, as the author seems to have mistaken him for Batman: he won’t kill but he has no qualms about inflicting grievous bodily hurt on his enemies. Austen seems to have trouble distinguishing a warrior from an executioner. Be aware that war and criminal justice are not the same thing. Plus, Cap is sexually repressed? Don’t tell Sharon: the 1930s and 40s were hardly an age of Puritanism: the chief motive for chastity was the unavailability of contraceptives. Note: that black-and-white cover looks rather odd.

Comments: “Ice, Part 4 of 5.” General Phillips’ first name is given as “Albert” when it has usually been “Chester.”
