The Death of Captain America: Act 3 - The Man Who Bought America: Part Six

Synopsis

Captain America #42 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 5 stars

Captain America crashes through the window of the booth where the would-be assassin Sin is stationed. He fights off her backup team as she makes her getaway. On the roof she realizes she ruined her father’s schemes. Spotting the limousines carrying the Presidential candidates she quickly devises a contingency plan….

At the Red Skull’s base, as SHIELD agents engage the enemy in a firefight, Falcon and Black Widow follow the signal from Sharon Carter’s GPS. Meanwhile, an unconscious Sharon has been connected to Doctor Doom’s time machine by Arnim Zola. As she awakens, Zola turns the machine on. In the conditioning room, as the building comes down, the 50s Cap breaks free from his bonds….

At the debates, as Cap frantically searches for Sin, she is one the roof, preparing to fire a grenade at the candidates’ limo….

Sharon sees a figure coming into focus in the time machine’s aura; she rips the connection out, short-circuiting the device. Zola promises the Skull a way out of Lukin’s head if he will only hurry….

Cap arrives on the roof just as Sin launches a rocket-powered grenade at the Presidential candidates….

A dazed Sharon picks up a gun and pursues the villains. As the Red Skull stands gloating over Zola’s triumph, Sharon shoots him down. 50s Cap suddenly appears and drives a jagged shard of metal through Zola’s cyborg body.…

Captain America leaps and the missile explodes against his shield. Sin is knocked unconscious by the blast and Cap is thrown down to land on a limo roof. As he pulls himself to his feet, he is startled to find he is being hailed as a hero. Elsewhere, Falcon and Black Widow find the gravely wounded Sharon and rush to get her aid, assuring her the good guys won.

Epilogue one: Bucky tells Tony Stark he will be looking after the emotionally drained Sharon, who still doesn’t know she had been pregnant.

Epilogue two: As Senator Wright withdraws from the Presidential campaign under threat of exposure by SHIELD, Natasha assures Bucky he will grow into the role of Captain America. Meanwhile, 1950s "Steve" walks the streets of New York, expressing his disapproval of the modern world and determined to change the country….

Epilogue three: Dr Arnim Zola explains to the Red Skull that the current situation is only temporary and he will correct it. Then we (and the Skull) learn that the Red Skull’s mind has been transferred into a cyborg body similar to Zola’s.
