Captain America #39 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Senator Gordon Wright, third-party candidate for President of the United States, and the Red Skull’s pawn, is giving a speech to his assembled supporters, while the phony 1950s Captain America watches from the shadows, waiting for his cue. Suddenly it comes: a team of assassins approaches Wright with drawn guns, and "Cap" leaps into action. After overcoming the assailants, "Cap" makes a heartfelt plea in support of Wright’s candidacy before the cheering crowd, as Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson (the Falcon) watch on television. They realize Senator Wright could be the link they were looking for between the Red Skull, Kronas Corporation and the Cap impostor.

In the infirmary of the villains’ base, Sharon Carter is drugged and restrained to prevent her escape. Sin, the Red Skull’s daughter is there also, recovering from her wounds (issue #36) and plotting revenge against Sharon. Later, Sharon is able to slip her bonds, overpower the doctor and take Sin hostage forcing her to lead Sharon to safety with a scalpel to the throat. Elsewhere Bucky Barnes attends a Wright rally incognito, marveling at how easily the Red Skull is able to buy the country’s support. Against the Falcon’s advice, Bucky dons his Captain America gear and investigates Senator Wright’s hotel room. He is jumped by the 1950s Cap who hits with enhanced strength and promises, "You are going to die tonight."
