Immortal Thor (2023 series) #19 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

On the Rainbow Bridge, Sif looks out into space where Thor has gone, seeking a friend he has long missed. Magni, Son of Thor from an alternate timeline, confesses to her that he feels he does not belong, either in Thor’s family or in Asgard. Sif suggests he explore the place and meet people so he goes off….

Amora the Enchantress watches her son remotely, pondering what would happen to the All-Power should Thor and Magni die. She is visited by Skurge the Executioner who wants his death back....

Magni meets Beta Ray Bill and admires the Twilight Sword he wields. But Bill also feels he does not have a home….

Bill visits Sif, changing into his less threatening natural form and declaring his love for her but she cannot return it so he departs. Sif ponders her role and wonders if her brother Heimdall is happy in Valhalla. But no, Heimdall is locked in battle with the Elder God Nrgl, calling to Hermod to warn Asgard….

At the home of Ullr, God of Doom, Athena looks at her magic cards and foresees death for Thor. Skurge knocks at the door wanting his death restored so he needs a magic weapon. Ullr declines but Skurge tells him to name his price and with a warning Ullr agrees….

Magni visits a tavern in Asgard and finds Volstagg, Hildegarde, Hogun, and Fandral in the midst of a brawl so he leaves unnoticed….

In Valhalla, Brunnhilde the ex-Valkyrie encounters Odin who is brooding over his helplessness. Iric, Son of Amora, announces that there is someone at the door. At first it appears to be Valkyrie Jane Foster but she drops the disguise, revealing herself to be Amora, asking to be admitted to say a final goodbye to her son. She gets no response and departs in sadness….

Magni hangs out with his uncle Balder, relaxing in a field and drinking in the peacefulness of nature. But the young man is bored and quickly leaves….

Tiwaz meets with Utgard-Loki who reveals that he is planning his next assault on Thor. Tiwaz promises not to interfere with his plans. Tiwaz leaves and encounters Loki who explains how he was banished but is planning to end the “first act”….

Amora goes to Strange Academy to visit her son Alvi and apologize for her treatment of him. He does not care as he cannot trust her so Amora departs in sadness….

Magni encounters Blackjack O'Hare, another who does not fit in. Magni reminds him of his pal Powerstone and he and Magni become friends….

Ullr presents Skurge with the new Bloodaxe, who starts planning his revenge against Thor. But Ullr warns that the Utgard-Gods are returning and they are coming for Asgard….

Immortal Thor (2023 series) #19 Review by (January 15, 2025)
Review: Who would have thought that an issue without Thor would be so chock full of details that it would take me an hour and a half to do this review? But Al Ewing generously presents us with an inventory of all of the current Thor supporting characters and what they are doing, to prepare us for upcoming stories, which is really nice of him. Too bad it makes for such scattershot reading; we’ve done what we can to provide references below.  The range of artwork, an unnecessary bonus, also makes for an enjoyable read.

Credits: Artists are Jan Bazaldua, Dan Jurgens & Brett Breeding, Luciano Vacchio, Karen S. Darboe, Jorge Fornes, Juan Ferreyra, Valerio Schitti, Rod Reis, Juan Cabal, Gleb Melnikov, Steve Skroce, Leonard Kirk, CAFU, Phil Noto, Martin Coccolo, Lee Garbett, Humberto Ramos, David Baldeon, Gavin Guidry.

Colorists: Matt Hollingsworth, Espen Grundetjern, Juan Ferreyra, Rod Reis, Frank D’Armata, Phil Noto, and Edgar Delgado.

Comments: Thor does not appear in this issue. Magni “returned” in issue #17. Skurge returned from the dead in AVENGERS, INC. #3. Heimdall was murdered by Bullseye in VALKYRIE JANE FOSTER #2. Nrgl of the Elder Gods was first mentioned in IMMORTAL THOR #8; this is his first appearance. Odin died to give Thor the Odinforce in THOR (2020) #20-23. Brunnhilde the Valkyrie was killed by Malekith in WAR OF THE REALMS #2. Iric, son of Amora, was inadvertently killed by Emily Bright in STRANGE ACADEMY: FINALS #6; his twin brother Alvi was also a regular in STRANGE ACADEMY. Tiwaz first appeared in IMMORTAL THOR #12, Utgard-Loki in issue #1. Loki was banished in issue #15 of the present series. Blackjack O’Hare debuted in INCREDIBLE HULK #271, along with Rocket Raccoon; he was most recently seen in IMMORTAL THOR ANNUAL #1 as sidekick to Powerstone.
Issue includes a tribute to the late Greg Hildebrandt, celebrated illustrator, notably of the original poster for STAR WARS (1977) with his twin brother Tim.
