Synopsis

Immortal Thor (2023 series) #24 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Thor and Loki have defeated Kemur, the bull-headed king of the city NRGL in Utgard. Hermod scoops up the gravely wounded Heimdall and Loki retrieves the arrow that slew their foe, made from the Eternity Mask—but Thor knows there is something Loki isn’t telling him….

Utgard-Loki watches them all, toys with the idea of freezing them in time for eternity, decides he must keep to the rules, oldest of which is that Thor must pass his trial….

The heroes exit the land through the Gate and Thor asks Skurge to help him close it, to trap the denizens of Utgard in their realm. But Utgard-Loki appears to them and destroys the gate. Thor orders Hermod to take Heimdall to safety over the Black Bridge while he must be the gate. Skurge offers to stand beside him but Thor denies him, ordering him to guard the bridge, should Thor fall. Then the army of Utgard arrives, led by Mejed the hooded one….

From the Rainbow Bridge, Sif sees Thor in danger and dashes into the city to summon help. She discovers her brother Heimdall is alive again and Hermod near death from his exertions. Volstagg offers to care for them and Sif thanks him….

Thor battles the hordes of Utgard and their ruler Mejed. Thor calls down lighting on his foe and his axe Tormod returns to Thor, tearing through Mejed’s body. The villain dies. Thor lives. He crosses the Bridge, seeing Sif his beloved on the other side…and then Thor dies, stabbed in the back by Loki with the arrow made from the Eternity Mask….

Review / Commentaries

Immortal Thor (2023 series) #24 Review by (June 4, 2025)

Review: And so it happens again, Thor dies so that a new volume of his adventures may live, with a new artist and writer. Our hero faces impossible villains, performs heroic deeds, etc. etc. It’s very good but we’ve seen so many heroes die that it’s hard to not see it as a gimmick. Oh, well…. Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Most of them are. Ewing’s writing is good as always and this issue’s artist does a good job.

Comments: Heimdall was murdered by Bullseye in VALKYRIE JANE FOSTER #2. Mejed first appeared in issue #20 but was easy to miss.
