Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Incredible Hulk #120 Synopsis by Jonathan Drewry
Paratroopers are landing in and around Maximus's castle. Outside, more soldiers and tanks arrive. Maximus tells the Hulk to choose between joining him or battling both the Inhumans and the army. The Hulk joins with Maximus because the army has hounded him forever. Immediately after, Hulk begins attacking the soldiers.

In the overhead command ship, General Thunderbolt Ross holds back an air-to-surface assault and says he wants to be sure who the true enemy. But when the Hulk continues to trash the army, Ross orders the aerial assault. Betty Ross, who'd stowed away in the command ship, begs for the Hulk's life but Ross says that Bruce Banner is dead, and only the Hulk remains.

Meanwhile, missiles containing gas are fired at the Hulk. The Hulk strikes the ground and the concussive waves deflect the barrage and the missiles land in the midst of the army, defeating it. The Inhumans want to unite and destroy the Hulk but Maximus says no. This angers some of the rebel Inhumans and they begin bickering. Maximus stops the arguing and orders the Hulk to destroy the command ship. The Hulk reluctantly leaps at the plane but turns his leap aside when he spots Betty so that he goes through the wing rather than the cabin. The occupants of the plane parachute to relative safety outside the castle while Maximus gloats and says they will destroy the rest of the military and then the Hulk.

Maximus is about to kill General Ross when the Hulk intervenes saying there will be no killing. Angered, Maximus pulls out a small device and presses a button and the ground begins to rumble. The Hulk turns and sees a second large statue like the one Costa Salvador burst through the gates of the castle. Ordered to destroy the Hulk, the robotic statue's head begins to glow brighter and brighter. A battle ensues. The Hulk grabs the corner of Maximus's castle and begins to lift it. Maximus turns the robot's deadly beam directly on the Hulk, trying to force him to drop it. But the Hulk grows angrier and angrier and throws the entire castle on top of the robot.

Maximus is about to try destroying the Hulk by some other means but opts to retreat when he sees the soldiers are awakening. The Inhumans leap into a steel cylinder that emerges from the ground. The Hulk is about to pursue when he finds himself at pointblank rage of soldiers with gas grenades. Betty begs her father to stop but the Hulk's aggression decides Ross's mind. He is about to order his men to fire when the ground begins rumbling. From the ground, a large ship bursts forth and rockets from the field at Mach-1. The Hulk, angry that he was distrusted even when he did the right thing, leaps away. Ross and Talbot watch his departure and say they will never rest until the Hulk is destroyed. Betty thinks to herself that when they do, they will also kill the man she loves.
