Doc Samson receives a call from Bruce Banner, who asks to be picked up. Samson sends a plane to retrieve him.
When Bruce arrives at the base, he discovers that Betty Ross has left. Determined to find her, he takes Rick Jones with him to the city. They locate her in a hotel room rented by Ramon. Although Betty insists that “nothing happened” between them, Bruce confronts Ramon and loses the fight.
Despite the altercation, Betty chooses to stay with Bruce. Rick, however, delivers a brutal beating to Ramon. Bruce then rents a hotel room and invites Betty to reconcile.
After they “fix” things, Bruce transforms into the (Gray) Hulk, who violently escapes from the hotel. The chaos leaves Betty injured.
Later, Hulk encounters Half-Life, a gamma-irradiated being capable of absorbing his strength. Hulk manages to defeat Half-Life and retreats into distant mountains before sunrise, hoping to prevent Bruce Banner from returning to Gamma Base.
