Gods and Monster [Part 3]

Synopsis

Indestructible Hulk #8 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

Trapped in Jotunheim, Bruce Banner and his team (Daman Veteri, Randall Jessup, Patricia Wolman), along with Thor, are camping in the cold and weighing their options. They are unaware that “Randall” is actually a Frost Giant under a spell of illusion. Meanwhile, Bruce is talking to Patty who has revealed that she is suffering from a terminal disease (Bruce guesses Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease); she explains that her plan was to support her impoverished father by taking out a large insurance policy then taking the highly dangerous job of working alongside Bruce Banner, hoping to be accidentally killed by the Hulk. Bruce also mentions two explanations for how Thor's hammer Mjolnir can detect who is worthy: either an advanced type of nanotechnology controlling graviton particles—or magic; Patty doesn't have time for such things....

Meanwhile, Daman has worked out a means of using electrostatic separation to extract Eiderdurm from a waterfall via Thor's hammer; Bruce has already thought of this (of course). The process works and Eiderdurm is collected—then Randall reveals himself to be a Frost Giant, punching Thor into the waterfall. More giants arrive to storm the portal to Midgard. But Maria Hill and Phil Coulson are heading up a band of SHIELD agents to fight off the invaders as Melinda Leucenstern keeps the portal open—and then Hulk steps in, rescuing Thor from the waters. Together they hammer the ground, turning the waterfall into a river making huge fissures in the ground which the giants drop into. Thor then summons lighting to seal up the fissures and Hulk catches him as he falls from the sky....

As the portal closes, Bruce and his team hurry through and Thor shows up with the real Randall. Bruce thanks Thor for his aid and he is is certain that Patty now has the faith to fight for survival....

Indestructible Hulk #8 Review by (March 26, 2019)

Review: Highly entertaining wrap-up to the arc, again with epic art by Walt Simonson and some poignant moments with Patty Wolman and her family/medical situation. And thanks for bringing that back at the end—though we really didn't see any positive effect on Patty the way Bruce did. Young Thor is really cute—cuter than Jason Aaron's version—and I can picture him speaking with Chris Hemsworth's voice so the MCU should be proud of itself.

Comments: Part three of three parts. Bob Wiacek assisted with the inking. Bruce mentions a scientist named James Kaklios; he is a real person, author of The Physics of Superheroes.
