Secret Wars #6 cover

Story Name:

We Raise Them Up…Just So We Can Pull Them Down

Synopsis

Secret Wars #6 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

At Castle Doom, Valeria informs her father, Doctor Doom, that she has been unable to locate the rebels, save for Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight who are now in stasis; the Black Swan, now allied with Doom, gives their background. Valeria is unable to discover anything of the rebels' plans….

Back at the Foundation, Valeria and her team are still trying to figure out Doom’s motives. Alex  Power is unable to explain the unusual drones they keep finding….

Young and old versions of Reed Richards are trying to piece together how Doom achieved his godlike power, while viewing the activities of a masked Prophet who is raising an army against Doom….

Working for Reed to uncover the source of Doom’s power, Spider-Man (Peter) and Spider-Man (Miles) follow a tracking device to the Dr Strange statue. They run into Valeria who directs them to the underground place once she is assured they did not kill Strange. The two Spideys descend into the crypt where they find Owen Reece, the Molecule Man, who tells them that he is the source….

A band of villainous vassals (Madeline Pryor, Sinister, the Maestro, and Apocalypse) bring Doctor Doom news of the Prophet and his rebels. Doom orders them to deal with it. Returning to Bar Sinister, Sinister plots with Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)….

On the hidden isle of Agamotto, Namor and T’Challa enter a chamber to hear a message Dr. Strange left to be accessed after his death. They are given the Siege Courageous, an artifact than can transform and transport its user—and the Infinity Gauntlet….

As he goes to bed, Franklin asks his mother Sue to tell him about the Fantastic Four. She relates the history of the superhero family: Sue, Johnny, Ben Grimm—and Dr. Franklin Storm, and how they were saved by the great Dr Doom who created this world. But he wants to know what happened to Ben….

Now we discover what has happened to Ben, along with Thanos: the Thing makes up the Shield that protects this world. Thanos tells Ben of the real world….and how Doom has manipulated him into this degrading service. Ben decides to revolt….

Secret Wars #6 Review by (October 11, 2010)
COMMENTS: The cover scene showing Thanos fighting with undead versions of famous villains including Loki, Doc Ock, and MODOK, does not appear in the issue. REVIEW: Clearly this epic event can only be judged in its entirety so I won’t waste your time and ours by trying to review something this strange. Catch me when it’s over.

Secret Wars #6 Review by (October 11, 2010)
We can now add the 2 Reeds, Peter Parker, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight to the list of located survivors of Earth and Ultimate Earth. We still haven't seen Maximus and Terrax. The Black Swans used to work for Dr Doom when he was Rabum Alal. Susan Storm doesn't like *this* BS at all. The drones are the work of the Reed Richards's. The young Reed is the Ultimate version, known now as the Maker. Valeria has never heard the name Richards. Presumably Miles Morales appears here after Ultimate End #5, now delayed to the last minute. This Earth-616 Captain Marvel now has a diamond-shaped jewel in her forehead like Sinister. The revolt of Ben Grimm happens in Siege #4. I don't think any other events here are paralleled in other tie-ins.

Yet more WARZONES tie-ins (to be continued in #7):- HAIL HYDRA #1-4 Somehow the current Earth-616 Nomad (Ian Rogers) has survived to continue (from the last Captain America series) his battle against Hydra, who control this version of New York. 1 of their agents is Venom, along with a Hydra version of the Avengers. HANK JOHNSON, AGENT OF HYDRA #1 A 1-shot day-in-the-life of a low-level Hydra guy. Possibly doesn't even mention Secret Wars. HOUSE OF M #1-4 In this zone Magneto and mutants rule, and humans are hunted. Wanda's kids have grown up into Speed and Wiccan. And Pietro sides with Sub-Mariner and the human resistance. The revolution succeeds and Magneto is depowered, but then the humans discover Quicksilver intends to rule with the backing of Atlantis. But actually namor intends to take over. Magneto sides with the humans to get his throne back, and Wiccan returns his power. HOWARD THE HUMAN #1 Single-issue tale in which Howard the Duck is the only human in a zone of funny animals. INFERNO #1-5 In the Limbo Zone the demons won the Inferno event, and every year the X-Men led by Colossus get a chance to rescue his sister Magik. But she's changed to the Darkchylde, allied with demon N'astirh, and Colossus has to side with her enemy the Goblin Queen. Now Darkchylde uses a transformed Nightcrawler to take the fight to the X-Men. So Goblin Queen switches sides, and Mr Sinister comes to help the X-Men too. But in the end it's up to Colossus to stop Darkchylde.

INFINITY GAUNTLET #1-5 In the New Xandar Zone south of the Shield overrun by insectoid aliens a family have been abandoned by their mother who left to rejoin the Nova Corps. Daughter Anwen finds the Mind Gem. Mother returns and turns them all into Novas, but the rest of the Novas are dead. Thanos has the Reality Gem. Another Thanos keeps using the Time Gem to travel to the future trying unsuccessfully to gain the Mind Gem, until the 1st Thanos kills him for it and travels to the past to 'befriend' the Nova family. They buy the Space Gem from thieves Gamora and Star-Lord, who join them. Then they get the Power Gem from Groot, and see a vision of Warlock and the Soul Gem. They confront Warlock, and Drax shows up. It turns out Warlock is using the Soul Gem to restrain the Behemoth Bug. Thanos grabs the other Gems and kills Warlock to release the Bug. The final battle is confused by another Thanos coming back from the future claiming that the whole plan was for the current Thanos to die so that future Thanos could 'inherit' all the Gems. But current Thanos rebels and kills future Thanos. Then he fights the Novas (including Gamora, Groot and Star-Lord) for the final Reality Gem. But Anwen tricks him by using that Gem to create a lookalike Death Gem. KORVAC SAGA #1-4 Baron Korvac rules the City zone from Forest Hills, with the Guardians of the Galaxy (Guardians 3000 version) as his lieutenants. A madness (that makes people remember a time when there were stars in the sky) is affecting Battleworld, and there's conflict with Wonder Man and his Avengers from the neighbouring Holy Wood zone (which doesn't appear on the Battleworld map). They accidentally kill Korvac's wife Carina who the virus has turned into a Mindless One. And the original Captain Marvel's in here too. In the end Korvac convinces them all of the universe before Battleworld, and the Thor Corps comes and kills them all for heresy.
