Story Name:

King of the Dead

Synopsis

Secret Wars #7 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

The Prophet who is leading the rebel forces against Doctor Doom’s generals reveals himself to be Maximus of the Inhumans. He is overrun by goblins and killed. At this point, Sinister and Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) turn against the Goblin Queen and defeat her; Sinister is then decapitated by the faithful Apocalypse (and survives)….

Watching from his stronghold, Doom summons the Thors, but when their citadel draws near, he finds the warriors locked in combat, with the victors being those who would rebel against Doom, descending to the ground led by the female Thor from 616. Suddenly a shadow appears over the battlefield: it is the arrival of the Maestro and his army of Worldbreakers….

At Project 42, the Reed Richardses of 616 and 1610 are ready for their mission while in contact with the Black Panther. T’Challa and Namor are at the Shield which protects the living of Battleworld. Calling himself the King of the Dead, T’Challa blows up a section of the wall and commands the dead to follow him though the portal called the Siege Courageous which will transform their lives and teleport them to the battlefield. The hordes of the unliving begin chanting, “Glory and honor!” as they follow their new king….

Review: Clearly this epic event can only be judged in its entirety so I won’t waste your time and ours by trying to review something this strange. Catch me when it’s over.

Secret Wars #7 Review by (November 11, 2015)
Now only Terrax of the survivors is unaccounted for. Does any of this issue connect back to any tie-in series? I believe only Thors links directly to here. Star-Lord has joined the Reeds from the Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde series without any actual link. Maestro turned up last issue with absolutely no reference to the end of Future Imperfect. Similarly the Goblin Queen didn't connect back Inferno. The 2 Reeds are planning to steal the 'most valuable thing that's left of the multiverse' from Doom. My guess is it's the Molecule Man. Black Panther was King of the Dead since Fantastic Four #608, ruling the Wakandan Necropolis while his sister Shuri led his tribe.

Even more WARZONES tie-ins (to be continued in #8):- MODOK ASSASSIN #1-5 Baron Mordo runs the Killville Zone, but MODOK enjoys defending it with extreme prejudice. Then he runs into Angela of the Thor Corp and falls in love, which she definitely doesn't reciprocate, and they have to fight a guild of assassins (cue lots of Marvel villains). Then Beta Ray Bill shows up, despite the fact he's just been killed off in Thors. And Mordo sends in the Mindless Ones. Baron Mordo plans to kill Dr Strange (but he too is already dead) and take his job. But MODOK kills *him* (and takes his job as Baron?). MRS DEADPOOL & HOWLING COMMANDOS #1-4 In Monster Metropolis below the Manhattan zones Deadpool is dead (but hanging around as a ghost) and his wife Shiklah leads a team of monsters to find something to kill Dracula. They get it, but meanwhile Dracula decides to challenge Dr Doom the Battleworld God. But Shiklah kills Dracula, and then *she* decides to rise up against Doom. Then the Thors arrive and kill them all. OLD MAN LOGAN #1-5 The future dystopia ruled by Red Skull in the original Old Man Logan mini-series has become the Wastelands Zone of Battleworld. This domain seems to be isolated from all the others, so Logan is surprised by what he finds when he leaves and treks through various other zones. He didn't even know about God-Doom and the Thors. But his zone-hopping gets him banished to the zombie Deadlands beyond the Shield Wall. When he escapes from there he finds himself in Manhattan, presumably where we saw him in Ultimate End #4. There he meets a Resistance with X-Men from various worlds, including Ultimate Wolverine's son. Then we get a suggestion of the final battle against Doom, and Logan surviving into the world that follows.

PLANET HULK #1-5 Dr Doom sends top Killiseum gladiator team Captain America and Devil Dinosaur with Doc Green to kill the Red King of Greenland, the remains of a world where everything got Hulked. Cap is doing this to save Bucky Barnes. Cap kills the Red King, but Bucky is already dead on the orders of Doom. Doc Green turns out to be another Steve Rogers, and Cap kills *him*. RED SKULL #1-3 Dr Doom sends a group of villains led by Magneto, plus Winter Soldier, into the Badlands looking for Red Skull. Zombies kills them all, but Skull saves Magneto and they join forces to overthrow Doom. They go to New Xandar and recruit Lord Annihilus. They all attack the Shield Wall and lose. Annihilus goes back to New Xandar. Red Skull abandons Magneto to the zombies, but gets killed himself. SECRET WARS 2099 #1-5 The Avengers in an alternate 2099 work for Alchemax boss Miguel Stone, that timeline's version of Miguel O'Hara (Spider-Man 2099). They clash with the unlicensed Defenders 2099 but a mystic enemy the Dweller is waiting in the wings. But O'Hara's high-handed treatment of the Defenders causes Captain America 2099 to rebel. The teams combine to defeat the Dweller, and the series ends with a truce.
