Black Widow and White Widow are relaxing at a lakeside café in an upscale neighborhood, waiting for Spider-Girl to arrive. While watching a mother and child, Nat’s mind goes back to her Stevie and she grieves. Anya reports disguised as a panhandler; the three women then go their separate ways….

Back at The Web, Lucy is fighting her panic by talking to the melted cultist Gumby (last issue) and wondering if she is in for the same fate. Nat assures her that if she does, she will not be left alone….

Anya breaks into a seemingly deserted factory with the mysterious Voss name on it. Inside she finds a meeting of the Apogee cult. Seeing members of the Olio about to be given they mystery drug, Anya quickly shoots a web and destroys the vials; she battles the mutant members and escapes….

Lucy identifies a photo of the villain Aldrich Lux Voss for Nat and then identifies a shell company name that is an anagram of the villain’s name. Leaving Lucy safely behind, Nat goes to that company and discovers Yelena has gotten there first and is a prisoner. Nat enters and fights the bad guys as Yelena frees herself and identifies the important guy in the room. Nat launches him through a window via parachute but Yelena is caught and electrocuted by a bad guy. Nat cradles her partner in her arms as more bad guys arrive….

Review / Commentaries

Black Widow (2020 series) #8 Review by (October 12, 2021)

Review: Another nicely done issue with exciting action sequences and some poignant character moments, notably Nat’s grieving for her child and Lucy’s contemplation of a dark future. And then there are some comical bits, all thanks to Anya’s viewpoint on her mission. Anya and Lucy look to be valuable members of the team and will ably rescue this book from being too centered on Nat, or, worse, Nat and Yelena bickering.

Comments: Rafael de Latorre contributed to both the pencils and inks.
