Review / Commentaries

Captain America (1968 series) #274 Review by (October 24, 2014)
Review: Story wraps up with a lot of action and confusion as there are several LMDs running around and we’re not always sure who is where and why. The focal point of the issue is the heroic sacrifice of General “Happy Sam” Sawyer and it’s nicely done, from a time when comic book deaths meant something. The comic gives you what you need to know about the character to appreciate the gravity of his death, and it works well. PS The cover makes the comic look more exciting than it is. Must be the Kirby Dots.

Comments: Part two of two parts. Baron Strucker supposedly died in STRANGE TALES #158; a robot double previously appeared in CAP #237. The story features an actual date for the adventure: Sam Sawyer’s tombstone lists his date of death as June 30, 1982.
