Synopsis

Captain America #356 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Captain America, turned by magic into a teenaged Steve Rogers, and the other kidnapped teens, are herded off the bus at a sinister youth camp, run by the Sisters of Sin. The rest of the kids are docile but Steve doesn’t know whether they are drugged or under hypnosis. The camp’s headmistress, Mother Night, addresses the group, informing them that the hate they have that led them to run away from home will be channeled into an all-consuming hatred for everything. A boy who makes a wisecrack is severely beaten by the Sisters and Steve is helpless to prevent it. The teens are then locked in outhouse-sized cubicles to spend the night. A claustrophobic girl panics and is beaten; Steve tries to protect her but his unfamiliar size and lack of strength leads to him being locked up and labeled a troublemaker. Once he determines the cell is escape-proof, Steve sits down to await the dawn…. Nearly a full day passes without release, though, and he starts counting the hours until the spell wears off and he reverts to his adult form. Two Sisters open his cell to punish him for his rebellion—but he holds on to the ceiling then drops down to distract them with a little dirty fighting before escaping into the woods. He comes to an arena and sits unnoticed in the back. Mother Night addresses the assembled "students," whipping them into a frenzy of chanting their hatred for every facet of society. Her huge henchman then produces a captive member of the right-wing Watchdogs. As Steve watches helplessly, at Mother’s urging the students turn into a mad mob that overpowers and beats the captive and hurls him alive into the giant bonfire. Steve makes his getaway to search for some method of alerting the Avengers to this horror. As he passes the new prisoners’ cubicles, he hears Jennifer, the claustrophobic girl, crying for help. Steve releases her and together they search the camp grounds. They find the main lodge and break in but are caught by Sin, the Red Skull’s daughter herself. Steve tries to fight but in his awkward state is no match for her bo staff and he is beaten sore by the villainess. When she discovers a Captain America uniform under his clothes she knocks him unconscious….

He awakens bound and in his full costume in the presence of Mother Night and all the Sisters of Sin. A glance at a clock tells him he has over ten hours until the spell wears off. He finally recognizes Mother and her henchman Malachi as Suprema and Scarbo (from CAP #123). Steve is injected with sodium pentathol and questioned; he is able to control his reactions and spins a convincing story about investigating the disappearance of a friend. The Sisters ask permission to execute him but first, Hoodwink snaps Jennifer’s neck. The enraged young Cap is set free and surrounded by his female foes. They beat him into unconsciousness and the brutish Torso lifts his head to deliver the killing blow….

Captain America #356 Review by (August 3, 2011)
Comments: Part two of a two-and-a-half part story. Cap was turned fifteen in the previous issue; here he is said to be seventeen; must have been a long bus ride.
