Night of Sin

Synopsis

Captain America #357 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
The teenaged Captain America has been beaten into unconsciousness by the Sisters of Sin and the brutish Torso lifts his head to deliver the killing blow…but Sin demands the privilege of dispatching the interloper. Cap knows he has ten impossible-to-endure hours before Sersi’s magic spell wears off, when suddenly his head clears and he challenges the Sisters to combat once again. And again they pile on but this time they are tossed aside violently. Standing in their midst… a puzzled but uncomplaining adult Captain America. Cap then defeats Malachi in a brutal slugging match and discovers that the murdered Jennifer is alive and unharmed; Hoodwink—the former Sister Dream—only created the illusion that she had snapped the girl’s neck. Cap rushes outside to find all the "campers" rushing for the buses. Mother Night orders them to kill Cap but the hero manages to pass through them without injuring any of the kids until he reaches Mother Night. The villainess casts a cloak of darkness over the area while boasting that she is the corrupter of youth. Cap, shutting his eyes to her hypnotic effect, reaches into the darkness and pulls her out, then announces to the teenage mob that violence is not the answer. With the dawn, the police take away Mother Night but the other Sisters of Sin and most of her followers have gotten away. Back at Avengers Headquarters Cap calls Bernie Rosenthal to tell her he could not find her missing sister—and Bernie tells him that Nancy is safe and sound: she merely went on the Grateful Dead concert tour and forgot to tell her parents. That night, Cap stops by Sersi’s penthouse to ask how the spell wore off so quickly; the Eternal reveals that she added a failsafe: that Cap would return to normal if hit fifty times. Cap thanks her but the flirtatious spellcaster prefers him to pay off his debt a little more intimately….

Story #2

The Bloodstone Hunt

Writer: Mark Gruenwald. Penciler: Kieron Dwyer. Inker: Al Milgrom. Colorist: Gregory Wright.

Synopsis

By Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars
Late night at the American Museum of Natural History, a trio of sinister figures moves through the shadows, stealing a large coffin-shaped box. They are caught by a guard who shines to flashlight on… Batroc the Leaper, Machete, and Zaran. They drop the guard with thrown knives but Batroc insists on leaving him alive as the signature of his crime. They load the crate on a truck and head off, unaware that Diamondback is riding atop the vehicle. They deliver the crate to their employer, Baron Zemo, and open it to reveal a skeleton with a gem in the center of the sternum. Zemo’s associate, psychic detective Tristram Macawber, confirms it is the skeleton of Ulysses Bloodstone, immortal monster-hunter. The hero was killed in battle against a creature made from the Bloodstone that had been keeping him alive. Zemo hires Batroc and company to search for the missing fragments of the gem. Zaran catches Diamondback, who was listening at the window, and the two fight in the alley; eventually the villain overcomes his foe and she is taken captive. Zemo removes the section of the ribcage with the embedded Bloodstone and Macawber finds he can use it as a diving rod to locate the five missing fragments. As the villains head off on their quest, Diamondback and the rest of the skeleton are nailed into the crate and it is dropped into a deep pit….
