Review: Thor’s midlife crisis continues but in a surprise move, the issue isn’t gloomy like the previous one but light and entertaining. This is mainly due to the interaction between Thor and Jane Foster, who is a snarkier type than usual. And two action scenes are inserted both also played mainly for comedy. So it’s fitting that Thor looks a bit liked a beefy blond Robin Williams in some panels. Thus we’ve had a grim and brooding part one to this story arc and a comical part two; we’ll see how the climactic issue breaks the tie. Meanwhile, check out the deceptive cover which features Loki watching Thor and Odin duke it out in a barroom.
Comments: Revelation: Thor speaks all Earthly languages, including the dead ones. Michele Bandini and Elisabetta D’Amico share the inking chores.
Thor is on Earth, telling Jane Foster about his recurring nightmare of being killed by Thanos wielding Mjolnir combined with the Infinity Stones, as foreseen by the Black Winter (issue #6). Jane questions Thor’s abandonment of his hammer but he walks away to buy hot dogs from a street vendor, using an appropriate New York voice. Then help is needed and Jane becomes Valkyrie and heads off with Thor to find the Wrecking Crew robbing a bank. Wrecker hurls his crowbar at Val; Thor catches it and knocks the bad guy out with one blow. Piledriver and Bulldozer see this and flee for their lives. Thor and Val continue their discussion with Jane asking what Thor is afraid of. A raven comes bearing a summons from Thor’s mother. He excuses himself while Val pursues the other two baddies. Thor teleports to the Singing Forests of Vanaheim where he encounters Odin and accuses him of sending a false summons. They are attacked by a giant monster and hold it off together. Then the monster is suddenly decapitated in a single stroke. Thor and Odin look up to see Freyja holding a gigantic sword and accompanied by Angela and they want to have a word with the men….
