That Was No Lady

Synopsis

Thor (1966 series) #345 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

Dr Eric Willis takes his secretary Miss Ordway prisoner and force-feeds her a hamburger—and she disappears. He is arrested and put in jail. There, female Officer Grier is revealed, like Miss Ordway, to be an agent of Malekith out to recover the Casket of Ancient Winters of which he is the guardian. She tries to feed him faerie food (disguised as a cookie) to capture his mind but he shoves a french fry into her mouth and she vanishes. Eric then escapes from jail….

With Eric Willis’ arrest, his lawyer Strother contacts his father Roger (actually his son) and the Mighty Thor with the news….

Subplots, grouped in one place: the despondent Balder exiles himself to the desert desiring death, unaware that an assassin is stalking him. Surtur completes the sword Twilight.

Roger Willis follows Eric’s instructions and searches for the mystery package. Meanwhile, Thor gets the message while at his girlfriend Melodi’s apartment and dashes off, foiling Melodi’s schemes (she’s Lorelei in disguise, remember?). He learns that Malekith has been freed from his imprisonment and is seeking the Casket of Ancient Winters….

The fleeing Eric Willis is pursued by thugs but is rescued by a beautiful woman called Angel. She seduces him into revealing the location of the hidden Casket then kills him, as she is Malekith the Dark Elf in disguise….

Review / Commentaries

Thor (1966 series) #345 Review by (October 1, 2013)
Review: Issue features a lot of romantic scenes of Thor as Sigurd dating Lorelei as Melodi and a very odd convoluted plot that becomes much clearer with the next issue (I’ve clarified it in my synopsis). And beware of McBurgers and fries!

Comments: Part one of four parts. Officer Rosie Grier has the same name as football star/actor Roosevelt “Rosey” Grier but if there’s a joke there, I don’t see it. Similarly, the law firm Strother and Martin would seem to refer to Western actor Strother Martin but there’s no obvious connection.
