Synopsis

All-New Invaders #8 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

At last issue’s climax, newly appointed SHIELD Agent Jim Hammond (the original Human Torch) discovered that psychiatrist Derek Malloy was an evil alien cyborg. Now he tells Agent Phil Coulson that he blew up the monster and part of the room they were in. And now Jim wants to know why Coulson is always following him; doesn’t SHIELD trust their android agent? An embarrassed Coulson reveals that he has been working up the courage to thank the Torch for saving his grandfather’s life in World War 2 as Phil would not be here otherwise. Torch gets a call about an incident involving Thomas Raymond—the Torch’s kid sidekick Toro….

Jim contacts Namor the Sub-Mariner who excuses himself from a meeting of the Illuminati to join his old comrade on a mission to find Toro. It has been learned that Toro was an Inhuman, and now he is in a cocoon because of the Terragen Mists (see the recent INHUMANITY series for details). Now A.I.M. agents have invaded the SHIELD base where he was "stored" and made off with Toro in his cocoon. The baddies have been tracked to Germany and Jim and Namor arrive to find a massive secret base and the Winter Soldier awaiting them. Bucky briefs them on the base’s owner, terrorist Kurt Dagmar, who disguised his men as A.I.M. agents to abduct Toro. Bucky sneaks in the base while Namor and the Torch provide a "distraction" with a frontal assault on the terrorist. Suddenly the two heroes are blasted; Subby looks up to see…an army of Deathloks.

Review / Commentaries

All-New Invaders #8 Review by (August 4, 2014)
Review: Oh dear…of all the Marvel heroes, Deathlok has the most convoluted and confusing history, what with multiple characters using that identity Including a new one introduced in ORIGINAL SINS), time travel, and robot doubles. And now here’s all of them together to mess with my head. And it looks like they’ve retconned Toro into an Inhuman, making me wish I had read INHUMANITY. But this is all a problem for next issue. Here the story is fairly straightforward (despite opening with two flashbacks) as the guys get together aging to help an old friend. And the Coulson-Torch scene was rather nice. Come back next month and we’ll see where this goes.

Comments: Cameos by Black Bolt, Black Panther, Dr Strange, Hulk, Lockjaw, Mr Fantastic.
