Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #9 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

As the minutes tick down to the end of the world, Luke Cage prepares to shut down the Mighty Avengers but he is interrupted by a call summoning him to the final confrontation. As President Barack Obama addresses the nation, the assembled heroes of Earth -616 fly into battle against the forces of Earth-1610....

We see that earlier, She-Hulk confided in Spectrum, concerned that the coming battle would require her to kill people, something she had never done; Spectrum comforted her. When the time comes, Spectrum turns into her living light form and heads toward the other Earth to destroy it before it can destroy hers; she hesitates—and is trapped inside and energy-opaque field, courtesy of The Maker a/k/a Ultimate Reed Richards....

At Mighty Avengers HQ, Ruby Neal takes off to be with her kids for the final moments. David Griffith tells Soraya Khorasani she can leave but she fields a last call. It's from someone afraid to die alone, so Soraya agrees to stay on the phone with him until the last moment....

As the last hour winds down, the heroes do what they can and do what they have to...and in the end, that was enough....

For the final two minutes, a doctor speaks t the reader who is carrying a Mighty Avengers membership card. The doctor shows “us” his own card and reminds us that “at the end of the world, we all meant something. We all counted.” And they watch the coming apocalypse through the window.
