Synopsis

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #21 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Hulk battles Varcolac, Father of the Wolf Lords, beside the entrance to his realm, blazing with fire. The giant werewolf swallows Hulk, who tears his way out through the monster’s throat and continues to pummel him, yelling, “Bad dog!”

Nearby, Charlie, transformed into a winged wolf by Lycana’s skin is fighting Werewolf Jack Russell who claims he is only trying to help her. She accuses him of wanting the Godskin which he denies, warning her that she is now bound to Lycana forever and that Varcolac is hunting her….

Hulk kills Varcolac but Jack warns him that the monster isn’t dead. Then the ground opens and Hulk falls into Varcolec’s realm, a city full of fire and the Wolf Lord tells him that anyone who wears Lycana’s skin belongs to him now to be tortured for eternity after her death. But Charlie swoops down on her wolf wings and plucks Hulk out, making it to the surface just as the chasm closes. Charlie resumes her normal form elated at their victory. Jack Russel takes his leave, wishing Charlie to outrun her fate. Charlie asks Hulk what Varcolac said to her in the pit and he replies, “Nothing….”

Review / Commentaries

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #21 Review by (January 15, 2025)

Review: Well, that’s one way to end a two-issue story arc: a battle scene between Hulk and a giant wolf in the pit of Hell for nearly the entire issue. And for a subplot: werewolf Charlie versus Werewolf Jack Russell fight, flinging even more fur about. And Charlie is in trouble with supernatural forces yet again and Hulk is saying anything yet again. Business as usual, only now we have Jack Russell not saying anything too. But it was an adrenaline rush of a comic book!

Comments: Issue includes a tribute to the late Greg Hildebrandt, celebrated illustrator, notably of the original poster for STAR WARS (1977) with his twin brother Tim
