Synopsis

Journey Into Mystery #628 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars
Thor, resplendent in the armor of Odin, soars through the air to meet the Serpent in the final battle. Meanwhile, as the Serpent’s Dark Asgard moves ever closer to Broxton and the fateful meeting, a messenger from Mephisto arrives at the city. The demon announces he has a message for the lord of the citadel and is slain by the guardian of the city who then reads the note. It contains one word and the puzzled minion reads it aloud. "Disir." And by so doing he summons the vicious warrior women to his side—and they slaughter him and open the portal which admits Loki, Leah, and Tyr, along with the Destroyer. Once Leah has determined which direction they need to head in—and the size of the force of Frost Folk in their way, Loki sends the Destroyer to create a "distraction." It does, the Disir take out the mechanized guards, and the human soldiers are easily ordered out of the room by an authoritative-sounding Tyr. Entering the library, they trigger an alarm which summons defenders. While the grown-ups fight off the enemy horde, Leah and Loki search for their objective. Leah finds it: a massive book; as she opens its pages, Loki draws his most powerful weapon, the shadow of Twilight, Surtur’s mighty sword….

Review / Commentaries

Journey Into Mystery #628 Review by (April 30, 2013)
Review: A brilliant series keeps its focus on the sly and entertaining young Loki, one of the most interesting characters to appear in Thor’s titles of late and Kieron Gillen is solely responsible. As he goes about spinning the threads of his devious plot to protect Asgard from The Serpent using the only weapon he has—trickery—this Loki is always a delight to watch. And we find that Thor has a sense of humor as well, albeit very dry. Braithewaite’s art brings the tale to life. This issue’s highlights include the summoning of the Disir, the interplay between the vicious sisters, and Loki’s command to the Destroyer, “Act in a suitably eponymous fashion.”

Comments: FEAR ITSELF tie-in: Thor’s final assault on Dark Asgard takes place in FEAR ITSELF #7. Issue includes a nine-page observance of the tenth anniversary of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks, reprinted from A MOMENT OF SILENCE #1.
