Review: So now we’re up to the third issue of… Sorry, that cover is giving me the willies. Where was I? Oh yeah…can we put that comic book face down for a few minutes? Okay, now wait until my pulse starts up again. It’s nice that they held such a terrifying cover until the third issue, by which time we were assured that this was all in fun. She’s getting to be quite a handful; while this series doesn’t have the headlong comedy and cleverness of Gillen’s young Loki tales, it is quite enjoyable.

Journey Into Mystery #648 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Stranded in a mysterious land by her brother Heimdall, berserker Sif lays into the giant monster known as the Ruler of Earth and hacks it to bits, its blue blood spraying everywhere. As she pauses, she is attacked by the three warriors she saw before and she clobbers them as well. She offers to lead these three exiled berserkers back to Asgardia but they decline….

In her cavern, the decapitated Aerndis emerges from the well in search of her head. She bumps into Heimdall who returns her missing bits and wants to know if the spell on Sif can be reversed. Aerndis responds that the hero has endangered the balance by sending her to the mystery realm….

Sif learns from the warriors, Einhar, Bodvar, and Svip, that they have been dispatched by Odin (along with 97 others, long dead) to spend eternity fighting giant monsters who would threaten Asgard. Sif thinks this is great and leads the unwilling soldiers against the greatest of the monsters, which dwell in the lake and they are all pulled down into a whirlpool….

…which dumps them all into the middle of New York City…and the Superior Spider-Man is not amused….
