The prologue features a primitive family 3000 years ago terrified by a storm; the skald—a storyteller—arrives to make everything seem all right with his words….
Now, King Loki gloats while his current incarnation is burning. Our Loki finds himself “elsewhere” where he meets his two predecessors: the original Loki who died at the end of the Siege of Asgard, and the kid Loki who was sacrificed to create the current one. They demand that he choose his fate: to accept his place as the God of Lies or sacrifice himself to save everything from himself…but Loki’s phone rings and he hushes his predecessors to take a call from Verity Willis. She tries to encourage him to fight his fate, not to resign himself to being the God of Lies forever. He realizes a lie is only a story and anyone can rewrite his own story. He says goodbye (actually see you later) to Verity and dons the broken crown….causing a massive explosion which rocks his present-day apartment. King Loki is annoyed at his alter ego’s self-sacrifice… then he discovers that his timeline has been pushed forward eight months. He looks out of the window and sees a red sky and an ominously close planet. “Well, that’s new.” He mutters.
Epilogue: Eight months have passed and there is a knock a Verity Willis’ door; she opens it to see a different version of the Loki she knew—now the God of Stories….
