Synopsis

Incredible Hulk, The (1968 series) #428 synopsis by reviewer Julio MM
Rating: 3 stars

While Betty Ross, still posing as Betty Danner, entertains Chief Largo at home, the Hulk tracks down the child killer Albert in the Everglades. Albert, deranged and haunted by his own abusive past, has kidnapped young Skip Templeton, believing that murdering children spares them from suffering at the hands of their parents.

Just as Hulk is about to intervene, the Man-Thing emerges from the swamp, drawn by the emotional intensity of the moment. Hulk, unwilling to be delayed, forcefully dispatches the creature and confronts Albert. The confrontation is raw—Albert’s twisted logic about “protecting” children echoes Bruce Banner’s own memories of abuse, triggering a surge of rage.

Albert flees into the swamp, only to meet a gruesome end in the jaws of a massive caiman, a moment that underscores the primal justice of the Everglades. Hulk rescues Skip and returns him to his family, but the act of heroism does little to ease Chief Largo’s suspicions about “Bob Danner.”

Incredible Hulk, The (1968 series) #428 Review by (February 26, 2025)

Hulk #428 – “Swamped” continues the eerie Florida arc with a tense blend of psychological trauma, swamp horror, and identity concealment.

The issue, written by Peter David and illustrated by Liam Sharp, deepens the emotional resonance of Hulk’s exile, juxtaposing his desire for peace with the inescapable violence of his world. It’s a grim, atmospheric chapter that pushes the merged Hulk into morally murky territory.
